On this staff

At New Mexico State I coordinate recruiting, own individual workouts, skill development, and offensive concept install, and help build the room, not just the roster.

  • Recruiting: I organize the board with the staff and stay on the names.
  • Individual workouts: I plan, organize, and lead them — built to support what we work on in practice that day.
  • Skill development: in-season, tied to his role, not optional.
  • Offensive concept install: I teach our actions to the roster.
  • Staff: I help build the room, not just the roster.

How We Build the Roster

The board we use

I built the board we actually use. Players, portal, and agents. If a name is on it, it has a status and a grade. Talent without fit comes off.

Consciously skilled in the work. Unconsciously skilled in the game. Decision reps get him there.

System

Offensive Philosophy

I teach our actions to the roster. Space first. A trigger to the ball. The next advantage. We don’t jog into a set because the break died.

Transition — Chase the Space

If we don’t space it, we don’t attack it. The middle third belongs to the trigger man.

  • Deep Corners
  • Wide Slots
  • Middle third is for the Trigger Man

½ Court — Create the Space

Create a second advantage. Don’t run a play just to get a shot up.

  • Shooters
  • Quick Random Action
  • Trigger 2 to the Ball
  • Dominoes

Triggers

The trigger is the decision. The action is how we get there.

  • On Ball: Drags, Double Drags, Zooms
  • Off Ball: Pin downs, Touch, Staggers
Identity

Defensive Philosophy

We guard connected. Man is the base. Change rhythm when the game asks for it. Make them uncomfortable, then stay there.

Man-to-Man

Connected man. Closeouts by personnel. Protect the rim line.

On Ball

  • Trace the Ball – Stick Hand
  • Rim Line Protection
  • Closeout Rules by Personnel
  • Switch Like-Sizes

Off Ball

  • Gap & Help
  • On Penetrations: Clog, Sink and Fill

PNR Coverage

  • Ice on the Side
  • Drop in the Middle
  • Peel-Off Switches

Rhythm Changers

Zone

I built, taught, and coached our zone and our BLOB defense at Little Rock. That zone turned 2023–24 around.

  • Tandem Guards
  • High and Wide Wings
  • Mic Man

Full Court Pressure

We don’t press to press. We press to change the game.

  • Man-to-Man – Personnel
  • Diamond
  • 2-2-1 to Zone

Fundraising

I ran the golf tournament. I assisted on 6th Man Club membership. The ask is still the job.
